THE TEXAS ABORTION CASE: A CONFLICT THAT BROUGHT NEW PERSPECTIVES…AND CONFLICTS

Since the Roe v. Wade case was overturned by the Supreme Court, each state was able to decide whether or not to legalize abortion, the Supreme Court implementing some exceptions for certain cases, no matter the state. Texas, a majority Republican right-leaning state made abortion illegal in the region. However, when specific cases come up that questions the broadness and limits of this law, conflict arises. A hypothetical scenario that is not typically seen presented itself in a pregnant woman, Kate Cox, who’s baby had a 2% chance of living due to its contraction of trisomy 18, a deadly fetus abnormality. In addition, continuing to grow the baby inside her could possibly result in complications that would lead to harming the mother and a chance of death. Unfortunately, although her chances were incredibly low, the Texas governor wouldn’t make an exception in this case. In desperation, Kate took it to the Supreme Court
